How to Reduce Neck Strain from Working on Your Laptop All Day

Transcript:

“Hi everyone! Now what if a laptop is all you have or you travel a lot for work? My advice, purchase a Bluetooth keyboard.

Why is that? Because then you can prop your computer screen up and still keyboard down here (gestures at table top height).

Which is going to keep your neck straight up here, and here (gestures to shoulders and back of neck) and it’s going to keep your ten pound head over the top of you so you don’t need to muscle anything.

Thanks so much. Bye now.”

What Causes Neck & Shoulder Pain When Working on a Laptop?

Many people that work on laptops end up with muscle pain in the shoulders and necks due to incorrect posture. Working extended hours at a laptop with incorrect posture can lead to sore and stiff muscles and eventually cause repetitive stress injuries.

When working at your computer, your body should form a 90-degree angle at your elbows and your eyes should look strait ahead a the top of the screen. Laptops however aren’t designed to support this posture. With the screen and keyboard combined you can’t position them individually to fit your best body mechanics. Overtime looking down at the screen or holding your arms at odd angles will cause muscle strain that leads to neck and shoulder pain and even wrist related pain.
