Temple Lomi Lomi

Traditional Hawaiian-Style Deep Relaxation Massage

Traditional Temple Lomi Lomi massage, also called Lomi Lomi Nui or Kahuna massage, is an ancient Hawaiian healing art passed down through generations of native families. It was originally practiced in temples by kahuna (healers) as a sacred rite of passage, cleansing both body and spirit before major life events.

Unlike typical massages, Lomi Lomi uses long, flowing, wave-like strokes with the forearms and hands to mimic the rhythm of the ocean. The therapist works intuitively, often using both hands and elbows in a dance-like motion around the table, never breaking contact with the body. A core belief is that loving touch (“aloha”) and energy (“mana”) can release physical tension and deep emotional blockages.

Sessions are performed with the client undraped under a small cloth or sarong, emphasizing trust, flow, and total-body connection rather than strict modesty. The result is a profoundly relaxing, transformative experience that many describe as feeling “reborn” or “reconnected” to themselves.
